First, it's important to avoid abrasive cleaners in coffee makers. Using them can damage the internal workings of your coffee maker. As such, the best cleaner to use is just plain white vinegar. Pour twelve cups of vinegar into the water reserve and run the machine through one or two cycles. Discard and run a cycle of plain water.

Run a warm vinegar/water solution (any type of vinegar will work) through the Mr. Coffee machine a couple of times. After the vinegar has gone through run hot water and dish washing soap through the machine.

Use regular laundry detergent. Put in about a half cup along with some water, swish it around and let it sit. Rinse later. It will sparkle!
