It varies throughout the day/season. If you are home during the day 68 degrees would be a maximum. If you are away, it can drop down to 55 degrees. Just program it to go up an hour before arriving home. At night 60 degrees.

In the summer, set your thermostat to 78 degrees. In the winter, set it to 68 degrees. Never move the thermostat up or down and this will save you money.

In the summer you should set your thermostat to off if it is warm enough for you to do so. In the late fall, winter and early spring you should set it as low as possible and still feel comfortable. There is no set temperature that you need to go by as long as you're comfortable.

I was told when I installed my new thermostat to put the air conditioning on 78 degrees when no one is home and 76 degrees when home (assuming 78 is too warm) and for the heat I was advised to put it on 68 degrees.
