Most people use the term 'Home maker'. For your resume, go back atleast five years and if possible ten years. That should be enough to satisfy potential job seeks resume info about past jobs.

If you were at home with kids, you had a job and you would write raised a family. A lot of applications will let you know the employment time frame.
