If you decide to quit "cold turkey" be prepared for engorged breasts that are painful and that leak breast milk. Also be sure to prepare your child for formula if they haven't had it before. It's suggested to supplement formula before you cut your child off from breastmilk completely.

Quitting cold turkey will cause soreness in your breasts. Make sure you pay attention to your breasts and watch for signs of mastitis: lumps, fever, and pain.

You need to know it's going to hurt. A lot. You will be very engorged and not have the relief that you had when your milk had first come in, with feeding the baby. You can't pump because that will stimulate more milk production. Make sure baby can take a bottle before you quit too.
