The most important part of any paint job is in the preparation. Be sure to mask any flooring in case of drips or paint spills. Remove any lighting fixtures as well as switchplate covers. If you are not painting the baseboards, be sure to mask them before painting the walls.

There's a lot of trim work in painting hallways, usually doors and/or windows to paint around, which takes extra time than just painting a flat wall.

first of all make sure you have enough paint and determine if you need to prime the walls. since hallways are usually small, dark and windowless,a light color is best. a low sheen, washable paint is a great choice. protect the baseboards and use a good quality roller with a 3/8 inch nap and a good quality brush.

Do you have the baseboard taped or is it going to be the same color? Are doors going to be the same color or do you need to tape the door trim and knobss. If your selling then go neutral. If the hall is narrow go lighter.

I would take the cover plates off of the outlets, then, using a 2" brush, do the ceiling edges first. Next, go ahead and roll the walls with a roller.

1. The job will take longer than you expect. 2. You will need to fill in holes, dings. 3. You will need to put primer down before painting the walls.
