Toddlers' bowel movements do not operate on a regular schedule. Some toddlers can go right after a meal or even wait a day or two. However, if the toddler does not have a bowel movement for at least four days or more it could be constipation. More signs of constipation could be a loose bowel or dry/hard bowels.

What I needed to know when I was a new mom was that it is OK if they do not go everyday. Fairly regular, every day or 2 is acceptable, it doesn't have to be like clockwork.

The pattern can vary widely from child to child. Some will go a couple of times a day, others will only go a few times a week. It's also a commmon reaction for them to be constipated when starting to toilet train, because they are nervous or scared of the change in routine.
