Invest in a temperature monitor - the african cichlids are very temperature sensitive. About 78 degrees should be ideal. If you have a lot of fry, then up it to maybe 82 degrees. this helps optimise their metabolism and grow well. If your fish are aggressive lower the temperature!

be careful of the pH too buddy - they need slightly alkaline pH. Cheers! And hope your cichlids grow well!  add a comment

About the pH I'd like to add that sudden changes of pH are not well tolerated at all while slow changes are better tolerated. Hope that helps.  add a comment

Don't stuff your cichlids with lots of food - that would be my advice to you. Feeding them smaller quantity more frequently is better and keeps them healthier. Choose a filter wisely too. An outside power filter is better than an undergravel filter.

These are aggressive fish!!!! Other fish in the tank will be attacked and/or eaten. These fish prefer warmer water temperatures. Adjust the thermostat on your aquarium slightly. Include plenty of rocks and grass for these fish to hide in. Cichlids are extremely territorial fish. There must be enough area in the tank to allow each fish to have a territory.

The water in their aquarium should be between 74 degrees F and 82 degrees F. African Cichlids are very aggressive fish. Lowering the temperature of their water helps lower their aggression levels. African Cichlids need to eat a variety of foods. They need Cichlid flakes and pellets, frozen, and live food. They need to be fed small portions, but frequently.

Well you need to feed them on a hourly basis and you need to make sure the acidity level of the tank is right.

First make sure there are only african cichlids in the tank. Blue ones are especially aggresive. Get ones that are the same in size. They prefer to eat frozen shrimp, beef hearts, which can be bought frozen in pet supply stores. They also like chiclid flakes. Keep temp at 65-85.

It is important to not mix you cichlids with fish from other region and remember to only put them with other fish with the same temperment. Cinchlids also need a warmer tank environment and should be monitored closely.

Taking care of african chiclides. Keep a few things in mind. They like to have alot of rocks to hide near and under and love to have alot of plants to filter through. They are very teritirial so keep the same class of fish together.

You want to make sure that the water is always clean in the tank and also make sure that you are feeding them correctly.
