If the tile is properly installed on a subfloor that has minimum movement,it should not crack. If something falls on the tile, a thicker tile will probably hold up better.

You need to make sure that the thickness of the tile will withstand the weight that it will be supporting.

The thickness of tile will determine the amount of leveling to be done and the amount and thickness of mastic or mortar.

Naturally, the thicker the ceramic tile is the less likely it is to crack or chip. However, the thicker the tile the heavier the floor, and this can cause a problem for some foundations or if there is a basement, or downstairs. Thicker ceramic tile is a little harder to install, since it is harder to cut.

The normal thickness for this type of ceramic tile should be around one to two inches or four to five inches.
