What should I know about caring for baby guinea pigs?

They need alfalfa pellets, unlimited timothy hay and fresh vegetables. Weigh weekly, handle carefully, have a vet check and separate males from females at 3 weeks old to prevent breeding. Please don't breed (lots of pigs in shelters and there's a 20% chance of death with EACH pregnancy).

Babies are born with hair, eyes open, and able to eat solid food. They are independent but do not handle them too much. They should be kept with their mother until she weans them, and given the same food and water as an adult.

Hold gently. Make sure to baby-proof your cage (e.g. line the bars with cardboard)- they can fit through small spaces. Give them alfalfa pellets (i.e. oxbow cavy performance) until 6 months old and introduce veggies slowly. Remove any boys at 21 days so there is no backbreeding (which is dangerous).

One good way to discover what baby guinea pigs need is to buy a book on them. I've read in a book that sometimes they parents of the baby guinea pigs eat them, so buying a book to know what to do is a good idea.

let the muother look after them mostly, just give them lots of fresh veg hay and water. if you have other guinea pigs move THEM to another cage not the mother and babies as this will be to stress full fotr them. sex them as early as you can :)
