If you care for your plants, you bring them in for the winter. Watch the local weather for word of any potential frost. You can protect your plants from a light frost by covering them with cloth or newsprint. A hard freeze will kill your plants, so it's time to get them inside.

Plants that are kept outdoors should be planted in pots so that they do not need to be transplanted again and again. If they need to be repotted due to size this should be done in the spring when they are getting ready to be moved back outside. Place the plant inside where it still gets adequate light.
