Some of the best choices are garlic, carrots, spinach, lettuce, peas and radishes. All of these thrive in cooler temperatures and are easy to grow.

Try planting vegetables such as kale, chard, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, beets, leeks or carrots. This depends where in California, since climate changes drastically in parts of the state.
