What should I do when a child hits another child and I'm the parent of one of them?

If you're in front of the children when this happens, then tell the children that hitting other people is wrong, and that they should never do this. Also, talk to the parent of the other child, and tell them about what happened.

Tell the hitter "hitting is bad" while paying more attention to the child hit. Be concerned and most important do NOT hit the hitter back as punishment.

If you are playing in a public area and your child hits another child you should pull him or her aside and make him sit out for a time period in addition to having him apologize to the child that was hit. Make sure you explain to your childrne that hitting is not nice.
