While there is no guarantee, children who are read to usually grow up to be readers, so start there. Be a good example: show your child that reading is a great leisure activity that should be included in one's daily routine. Teach him respect for books, too.

Go to the local library and obtain a library card for him. Attend book readings with other parents with same aged children.

A child must be able to write his/her name to get a library card. This usually happens sometime just before or during kindergarten.  add a comment

Most important: read to him and also let him see you reading for pleasure. Follow his lead while looking at picture books -- if he points to something that interests him, label it for him and act interested, which reinforces for him that he is able to make sense out of what's in a book.

To foster reading by many colorful books with interesting pictures. Spend time every day reading and talking about the pictures. This will keep him interested. Around age two, introduce books that feature the alphabet. Read the book daily until he understands the words that go with each letter. Learning the alphabet is the first step to learning the words.

Read frequently, ask questions about what appears in pictures and ask what he thinks will happen next; even if unable to verbalize answers, he'll be building reading comprehension skills.

You should say interesting stories and hearsay to him and that has to be watched eagerly. Try to clarify all his questions and doubts with an example. now encourage him.
