Question by  Siddarth (24)

What should I do if my 36" RCA TV just cut off after smelling something?

You should unplug it immediately as there may be a fire hazard. If it cools down, try again but unplug immediately if you smell anything. It will need professional help.

Smelling something is usually a sign of electronics burning. Not good at all. First thing I would do it test everything connected to the tv (dvd player, gaming system, cable box, ect.. to make sure they are in working order. If they are, plug the tv directly into the wall and attempt to turn it on, to test.

You should try unplugging the TV and allow it some time to cool down. Wait 30-40 minutes and try to turn it on again.

don't let it smell things

Check the cords. Do they look good? No cracks? No breaks? No showing wires? If affirmative, watch the tv till it doesn't work anymore or the cutting off gets to annoying. At that point call it a loss and buy a new tv. It's most likely the picture tube.
