You could recreate your first date. That is always romantic. You could also rent of couple of movies that both of you like, cook him a nice dinner and invite him over to spend the night together. Most men love a woman who can cook and really appreciate when they work very hard to cook them a nice meal.

Go to the place you were engaged and have a good laugh. It could be a restaurant, a park bench, or at home with family and friends. Except this time you will have a good laugh and not get too serious. Reenact it and make fun of the way each of you behaved. Lovingly of course.

If money is tight this year, especially around the holidays, you could always make him dinner rather than having a night out. Cook him a nice dinner, get a bottle of wine, and make a dessert like chocolate fondue with fresh fruit and cake pieces.

That depends on how serious the relationship is for you both. If it is very serious, a nice romantic dinner would be nice. If it is not serious, the boyfriend may not even know there is an anniversary. He may just think that you two have been seeing each other about a year and not want anything special.
