You need to use a test kit to check water quality. This is the main cause for erratic behavior in fish.

Your beta is probably eating and you just aren't seeing it. It may not go directly to the food. If it is alive then it is eating.

If your betta is refusing food, you need to check your water quality. Poor water quality will lead to disease, which in turn decreases appetite.
