The best thing to do about the complicated mess that pine needles can create is to purchase a rake at your local store and clean them up by raking them and bagging them up. It is not recommended that you try to use the browning pine needles as filler as they are coarse and often have relatively sharp points.

It really depends on what you're interested in. There are so many different plant types, what climate and humidity will these plants be enduring? It's best to purchase a botany-book.

You will need to rake them and bag them. If you have landscaping in front of your house, they make excellent ground cover.
