When you organize the debts and assets, you will know who the creditors are. You must then place a public notice so that creditors not known to you can advise you. You then arrange to have the creditors paid in a timely fashion. If you cannot clear debts, send a letter with pertinent details as well as proof of death.

If done as part of settling an estate, include clear wording that the person they are trying to collect from is dead. Send payment for debts if possible.
