What religion is it common for a man to be killed for working on the sabbath?

Jews. This was happening well before the coming of Christ. It was instituted when the Isrealites were in the wilderness lead my Moses.

Christianity, Islam, and Judaism have all had phases in which this occurred. The only faith that still actively and physically people for working on holy days is Islam, such as current day beatings for people drinking water during Ramadan and working on Friday.
