Expenses paid with after-tax money for you, your spouse, or your dependents that were for the treatment, diagnosis, or prevention of a medical condition are allowable medical deductions. A list appears in the Instructions to Form 1040. However, nonprescription drugs, and treatments for purely cosmetic purposes do not qualify.

Expenses, corresponding to the diagnosis or treatment of a medical concern for a dependent that one claims on their tax return, qualify. An expense may be for a physical or mental ailment. Expenses may include related traveling costs. Only the aggregate amount exceeding 7. 5% of adjusted gross income is deductible on tax returns that include a Schedule A.

If you are referring to Schedule A deductions on your tax form, then non-reimburses medical deductions include co-pays, deductibles, prescription medication, eyeglasses, medical equipment, transportation to the doctor (excluding taxi tips), some over the counter medications.

Generally speaking, travel expenses to see a specialist and/or other costs associated with these types of visits. Much home medical equipment, co-pays, and sometimes deductibles. However, there are many clauses as to what you can and can not deduct. Keep receipts for travel expenses, medications, etc. If in doubt, consult with your tax advisor.
