Methodism focused on direct actions in the world to make a difference for the better. It rejected other "Great Awakening" religious groups who sought salvation through the spirit only. Methodists sought rational and deliberate improvements, such as founding hospitals and schools.

John Wesley's three basic precepts that started the Methodist tradition are to avoid evil and wicked acts, do good things as much as possible, and obey the commands of God. Methodists must use reason and logic in their faith, and are enthusiastic about mission work.

Methodist follow theologic model of John Wesley. They are an off shoot of the Anglican church (church of England). They follow the Armenian Phylosophy about salvation (not once saved always saved). This means that the only difference between them and typical christians is that a typical Methodist believes salvation can be lost.

I think that the Methodists are originally known for spiritual/non- wordly piety. THey emphasised spirtual aspects of their faith and doing good works and not accumulating material wealth.

I am not a Methodist but I do know many people who are. I believe what makes them distinctive is that they are very welcoming and cordial in with newcomers.
