If it comes on for a few seconds and goes off right when the car is started then everything is fine. This is how the car shows you that all the safety light still work. However if it comes on as you drive then you probably have some component trying to fail in the abs system.

The abs light does not mean that you need to change your breaks, but rather it likely signifies a problem with the brakes' anti-lock mechanism. This could be the result of a number of things, e. g. bad wheel speed sensor, corroded wiring. All in all, you should take that car and have a technician scan it with an ABS scan.

Two activities usually make this light come on. First, when starting the car, some systems will automatically test the abs. The second is when the abs is actually working.

When light comes on it means the abs is in operational. However, there's a slim chance your abs sensor and indicator is not working properly.

You may want to have your brakes checked by a certified professional. It could indicate something wrong with one of the sensors in your system. It could also just be a malfunction of the main sensor though. You can disable it if this is the case.
