What major wars are going on now in the world?

There is a civil war in the Congo. There is an insurgency in Chechneya with the Muslim population seeking to drive out all Russians and create their own nation. Somalia's civil war has resulted in part of the nation, Eritrea, an almost-nation. Afghanistan and Pakistan are fighting the Taliban, which seeks to replace those governments with a Shariah (Islamic) state.

The two most widely known and publicized wars currently underway are the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan. Both wars consumed the majority of the previous decade and continue to this day. Measurable progress is difficult to determine in either conflict and neither have any apparent end in sight.

Major wars are in process right now in Afghanistan and Sudan. Neither are going well from a United States point of view and neither show any light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
