North Carolina has two species of wild cat. The Bobcat (Felis rufus) and the Cougar (Felis concolor), also known as the Mountain Lion, Puma, Panther or Catamount. Like most wild cats, both species are highly secretive and not typically seen, especially during the daylight hours. Decreasing habitat can cause more sightings in highly populated areas.
We live in Western NC mountains. and we see a mountain lion walking right up the paved road. It turns and looks at you, then walks on...so not afraid of people at all. add a comment
