What kinds of wild cats live in North Carolina?

There is a wild cat I have seen a few times, but I'm not sure what it is.

There are two wild cats. The bobcat and the mountain lion. The mountain lion is very rare. You probably saw a bobcat.

We live in Western NC mountains. and we see a mountain lion walking right up the paved road. It turns and looks at you, then walks on...so not afraid of people at all.  add a comment

North Carolina has two species of wild cat. The Bobcat (Felis rufus) and the Cougar (Felis concolor), also known as the Mountain Lion, Puma, Panther or Catamount. Like most wild cats, both species are highly secretive and not typically seen, especially during the daylight hours. Decreasing habitat can cause more sightings in highly populated areas.

I also saw one in Moore County, NC, on Dover Church Rd. Not a large one, but definately NOT a bobcat. I grew up in the area and have seen bobcats on several occasions. There has been a lot of clearing of land in the area in the recent past.  add a comment

I saw one just south of downtown Charlotte, on Arrowwood Rd. To big to be a bobcat, with a full tail, but too small to be a panther/mountain lion/ puma/ aka a Florida Panther (they are all one and the same). What the heck is it?

Last nite in Montgomery county nc, I hit a big cat. My wife says a bobcat but when I looked it up and compared my pictures, it a small mountain lion. No telling what else is out here in these woods.
