By the age of 18 months most children are able to start to string together two-three word sentences like "Hi Dad". They also have a vocabulary of around 10-20 words and are able to point to or get items whose names they are familiar with, like cup. Speech and vocabulary start to grow faster at this point.

Your child should have a vocabulary of approximately 20 to 50 words. Your child may or may not be using two words in conjunction with each other. I hope this helps!
