Like any big dog, a Labrador Retriever can sustain knee, hip, leg and/or back injuries from jumping, especially when landing on concrete. Displacements and sprains are common, especially in older or overweight dogs. A dog can tear an ACL in the same way a human does. Slipped kneecaps are also common.

One of the most common injuries seen in dogs caused from jumping is cruciate ligament injuries. This may lead to surgery in larger breeds and painful arthritis later in life.

A lab can suffer from ligament injuries if allowed to jump from a high place. If your dog is jumping up on people, he might get an injury if he is pushed to the side and loses his balance. He might get kneed in the face, as many people often put their knees up to stop a dog from jumping.

There isn't a good chance your lab will get hurt from jumping. However, if jumping incorrectly the lab could hurt its knee joints on the landing.
