Both organic and inorganic fertilizers may be used for hydrangeas. When you use a chemical fertilizer, it should be a slowly released and balanced one. Composted manure may be given on the soil around hydrangeas. Fertilizing twice during summer months is enough. The acidity of the fertilizer effects the color of the flowers.

You need to search the net for info on these plants because different fertilixers will give you different colored flowers on your plants that what I did for mine when I first got them.

A slow release fertilizer like Osmocote is ideal. Fertilize once or twice in the summer but never in the fall. Keep in mind that organic additives to the soil such as manure or compost can be just as effective as chemical fertilizers for hydrangeas.

I would recommend a good organic compost. Mix with soil around the trunk of your hydrangea and water in. You can also change the colors by adding different elements.
