Many different types of bacteria cause food poisoning. Camplyobacter jejuni is a bacteria which most frequently causes food poisoning. Various strains of E. coli cause food poisoning. Other bacterial causes can include salmonella, shigella, and B. cereus.

There are a variety of different kinds, so it depends on your symptoms. It is usually just bacteria or spoiled food though.
