What kind of assignments do you get in college?

The kinds of assignments you get vary by major, but two skills will serve you well regardless of major: analytical skills and writing skills. Practice reading scholarly articles to identify the author's thesis, main points, methodology, background, and biases (if any). Then practice writing--in your own words--what you have found and providing an assessment of the article.

It really depends on the type of school you go to and what type of classes you are taking. If you go to a UC, there are not many assignments. The teacher will lecture for about an hour and then you have a discussion section, and then you take your midterm and your final, but there is hardly any homework.
