Your target heart rate for weight loss will be a percentage of your resting heart rate thus totally varies from person to person. You will likely want to aim to make 60-80% of your maximal heart rate as your target heart rate. This is the best range to loose weight.

Taking your pulse periodically as you exercise helps figure out what your maximum heart rate is. The calculation is 220 minus your age = your maximum heart rate. In order to lose fat, you need to be in the 60 to 70 percent of the maximum. You shouldn't go beyond 90 percent.

If you exercise for 1/2 hour you want to get your heart rate up to around 150 bpm to lose weight. Over 200 could be too high. It can vary.
