There has been much speculation on the scarring on Seal's face. The sad truth is the scars are from a disease called Lupus. Lupus is an auto-immune disease that is passed down genetically. Jet magazine says he did not show signs of the disease until he was twenty three. The exact cause of the disease is unknown.

He got the scars when he was in his early twenties. They came from a battle with the illness Lupis. The particular strain he had caused blisters, mostly around the facial area. These blisters ended up getting really large and ended up bursting. The bursting blisters on Seal's face caused all of the scars.
