Answer by  MattK (1713)

It is advisable to keep the IUD in place for a full 12 months, but in the case of any emergency or any other emergent reason or need to gain uterine access, the device may be removed without negative consequence. As with insertion, removal must be carried out by a trained, licensed individual.

Just schedule your appointment at your doctors office and they will remove it for you.If you are trying to get pregnant once Mirena is removed you can try right away without any side effects or problems. It may take a month for your cycle to get back to normal and for you to start ovulating though.

The Mirena can be left in place for up to five years, but can be taken out at any time if a person experiences complications or wants to attempt pregnancy.

If you put the IUD in and you wanted to take it out in a month, you could. The most you can have it in is 5 years.

You should only let a qualified health professional remove the Mirena IUD. If you wish to avoid complications and potential problems, allow your doctor to remove it.
