I have had my period for 50 days after birth. Is this normal?

I gave birth on Aug. 11, 2009. The day after I got my period and have had it since. (50 days). I have clear discharge, and I start to bleed again. How long will it last? I got an IUD 1 week ago.

Having your period for 50 days is NOT normal. Yes, after you give birth you will bleed for a while, maybe even up to 3 or 4 weeks. However, 7 weeks is NOT normal. Go see your doctor.

It depends from women to women. In my opinion it is normal. Those that breastfeed will not have a period for at least two to three months. As you mentioned you already have started bleeding, use contraceptives during sex.

You should check with your doctor. After having a baby, bleed is normal for about six weeks. This is forty-two days. Any large clots are a concern and you should seek medical attention. There is also some bleeding associated with the use of an IUD. The combination of both may lead to longer bleeding.

This is extremely unusual. Most women become extremely fertile after giving birth, and a constant menstruation is not compatible with this. You should contact your gynecologist and get examined as soon as possible.
