Ringworm is highly contagious and should be treated as soon as possible. Your dog should see the vet as soon as possible before the ringworm spreads. The vet will prescribe you either a dip that will treat the ringworm or a anti-fungal medication that is a pill. This is not an emergency but needs to be treated.

If you leave a dog with ringworm for about 2 to 4 months it will eventually go away but to cause the dog less suffering you can be prescribed drugs.

First, the hair around the affected area should be clipped. Use a topical anti-fungal ointment on all affected areas twice a day. For severe cases, an anti-fungal shampoo or dip should be used and repeated every two to four days. sterilize any grooming equipment used for the clipping and safely dispose of any clipped hair to avoid reinfection.

Small isolated lesions can be treated by shaving the affected area and applying anti-fungal cream twice daily. Large or multiple lesions should be treated with dips such as lime-dips weekly.

Anti-fungal medicine is the best treatment. Special shampoos are available. It is also important to remove them from the environment.
