Depending on the cause of the inflammation, it can be treated a number of ways. Simple treatments would include things like ice application or taking aspirin or other analgesic medication. If the problem persists it may be a form of arthritis that may require a doctor's prescription for anti arthritic medications.

The doctor may draw fluid out of finger joint for testing to confirm and infection or an injury. If exam determines arthritis your fingers might be splinted to prevent mobility.

It depends on the cause, however generally the first treatment would be a course of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). If no relief occurs your physician will look further to treat.
