The treatment for clawed toes varies from simple orthotics, fitted by a podiatrist, when the treatment is begun early in the condition, to one of two types surgery required if the condition is advanced. You may require arthroplasty, which is the simpler of the two surgeries, or arthrodesis, in which two bones must be fused together.

Claw toes are often left too long so that the deformity is fixed and more difficult to treat. If flatfeet have caused the condition, the patient can be fitted for custom-molded orthotics that provide good arch support and help the muscles. Without treatment, surgery will eventually be necessary to separate the adhesions that form between the tendons and joint capsules.

Clawed toes probably require medical intervention and an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in problems of the feet would be my choice. There are surgical procedures that can help or even correct this condition but their success may depend on what is causing them. If the underlying condition is progressive, surgery may only offer a temporary fix. See a doctor.
