The vet will give the cat antibiotics for the infection. Make sure the cat is drinking plenty of water with the medicine to help protect the kidneys.

A veterinarian will prescribe antibiotics and may recommend you put your cat on a canned food diet to increase water intake.

Treatment for a UTI can differ based on the findings of your veterinarian. Most commonly a round of antibiotics can fight the infection and a special diet may be prescribed.

Feline UTI is most commonly treated with oral antibiotics such as Clavamox. This can be in pill or liquid form and usually given to the cat twice a day (amount depending on weight). You need to encourage the cat to drink more water and put him on wet food. There are prescription diets for UTI that you can buy.

A urinalysis will be done to confirm this is a UTI and antibiotics will be prescribed. Please look into preventatives in diet, etc because UTI's tend to re-occur and can be very dangerous, especially in male cats, leading to urethra blockage and kidney shutdown.

After a UTI is confirmed in a cat, antibiotics are given plus any other treatment the vet thinks is needed. Prompt treatment is vital because a urinary tract infection in a cat can be fatal if not taken care of right away. Caught early, the treatment is usually very successful.

Although it can vary a bit depending upon the severity of the infection and the overall health of the cat, the most common treatment is a course of antibiotics. A veterinarian is essential to treat this, however.
