What is the tradition with bridal showers and recipe cards?

When people come to the shower they bring a recipe along with their gift. At the end of the shower, the bride would have a collection of recipies. Traditionally this was a way for the bride to have almost a cook book's worth of tested recpies to start off the marrige with.

Some bridal showers request that the guests each bring their favorite recipe to the shower. A blank recipe card is included with the invitation for this purpose.
