At take off it is accelerating through about Mach 2 until it reaches Max Q. Then it throttles back and reaches approximately Mach 26. This lasts until it reaches main engine cut out and the final orbital velocity. This takes the shuttle into orbit. While in orbit, they typically do a PC2 burn in order to circularize the orbit.

The normal speed at take off from the start is usually about thirty to fifty. Once the shuttle starts to get faster and faster it will speed up very quickly.
