The Meeting House stood land purchased for six shillings. The Meeting house was built just before 1800 and was one of three Presbyterian churches in Logan Country, Kentucky, near South Union. There was a community of Shakers nearby, which is significant in the reporting of the "shaking, jerky, contorting and fainting" that accompanied the worship at the Meeting House.

In July 1799, a revival occurred among the congregants of the Gasper River Meeting House (Church) as dozens were "slain in the spirit". The practice of church camp meetings grew out of the gatherings at it and those at Red River and Muddy River, and the Second Great Awakening resulted.
