The saying is, "Beer before liquor - never sicker. Liquor before beer - in the clear. " This means that according to traditional thinking, a person should drink beer after drinking hard alcohol such as shots of vodka, tequila, etc. However, the saying is an old wives tale and doesn't actually have a scientific basis.

As a rule of thumb, Go from the strongest to the weakest alcohol when drinking. So a shot of tequila, then wine, then beer. Going the other way is a recipe for disaster, you will be less likely to notice how drunk you are getting.
