What is the process of outlining a novel?

To write a novel, you first want to highlight the important sections of the story (i. e. introduction, characters, plot, sub-plots, conflicts and resolutions). Write 1-2 sentences per section. Make sure the sections are in order that it occurs in the novel. Then write important sub-points for each section and then rank them in importance.

As you read the novel, make a list of the important things that happen in each chapter. You want to explain what happens without going into too much detail. Then, put your list into outline form with a part for each section or chapter.
