What is the process for removing the agitator in a top load washer?

Depending on the model it may vary. The quickest way is to remove the fabric softener cap and remove the screw. Once removed the agitator should slide out.

Many washing machines have their agitator secured by a bolt under the agitator cap; pop the cap off, remove the bolt, and it should pull free easily. Others are removed simply by pulling the agitator up with a sharp tug; they're snapped in place and need a good tug to come free. Check for a bolt first, though!

Their should be a screw on cap on the top of your agitator. Unscrew the cap, and then your agitator should just lift off.
