When using bleach in your wash load, the most important thing is to make sure the bleach is completely diluted in the wash water before putting any clothes in. Fill your washer with water, the soap and bleach, then let the washer agitate approximately 30 seconds. Stop the cycle, add your clothes, then turn the cycle on again.

First of all, follow the directions that came with the machine. Manufacturers usually print directions under the lid on top-loading, or where the laundry soap goes into on side loading machines, but barring that you should wait until your machine has filled, then use the dispenser on the machine, or in the water if there isn't one.

First sort your laundry, then start your washing machine, add your detergent to the water and add your bleach. If you wait till the washer fills and starts to agitate you will have a less likely chance of spotting on your clothes. Now add your clothes and close the washer lid.

I assume you are speaking about liquid bleach. Liquid bleach should only be used on white or light clothing. Fill the washer with hot water, add the bleach, let agitate for a few seconds and then add your dirty clothing. Never pour liquid bleach over clothing. You could ruin the articles. Non-chlorine bleach can be used on dark clothing.
