It really depends on what sort of "data" you're trying to collect. Data can be anything - from counting the number of books on a shelf, to measuring distances, to adding 1+1 over and over again. The procedures / good rules vary from data set to data set.

The procedure for gathering the data is firstly you must study the books of famous authors based ont the topic you want to gather data.Then you must gather the common data from those books and then you should gather a point that is interesting form one book when compared to the other books.
