Depends one the type of snake. They all need to keep warm because they do not produce their own heat. So they are usually more active when its warm. They are also can't see when they are shedding to it's best to leave them alone during that time.

It depends on what kind of snake it is. Some snakes prefer water or marshlands, while others prefer jungles like the Amazon in Brazil. A garden snake prefers any grassy area as does rattlesnakes.
