The Neolithic Age (or "new stone" age) refers to the time when there was a revolution in the use of stone tools leading to the rise of sedentary agriculture. This in turn led to an increase in permanent settlements. The use of stone tools eventually gave way to the use of metal tools and the Bronze Age.

The Neolithic Age, or "New Stone" Age, was the last era of human history preceding the Bronze Age, beginning around 9500 BCE and ending with the advent of bronze in 3000 BCE. The Neolithic Age marked the spread of agriculture in several areas of the world, leading to domestication of animals and the first substantial human settlements.
