"Unbreakable" is a comic book superhero origin story, told in Shyamalan's eerie cross of realism and creepy horror. Elements such as the hero finding fulfillment in fighting crime, the boy knowing his secret while his wife doesn't, his "costume", his "weakness", and his diametrically opposite nemesis all common in comics.
