Truly anything above 400 in cotton fibers is a waste as their is little difference in the feel. Silk sheets should be at least 400 thread count to be comfortable.
Generally, the higher the thread count of fabrics or sheets the more comfortable the fabric is. However, the higher thread counts will also be more expensive.
The higher the thread count the more comfortable it will be. If you have 1,000 thread count it is going to be like sleeping on air. If you have 100 thread count you mine as grab a rock and sleep on that.
