What is the meaning of the band's name "W.A.S.P."?

The name was actually revealed by the members of the W. A. S. P. band to stand up as an acronym for "We Are Sexual Perverts" or "We Are Sexual Prophets", but those were given during an interview, and it is thought they were joking. Some people think it stands for We Are So Perfect" or "We Are So Powerful". It's not clear.

I am not positve about the band's name, but the generally accepted definition of W. A. S. P. is White Anglo Saxon Protestant. It usually refers to Americans of northwestern European descent. It is sometimes used in a derogative manner by people of other ethnicities.

The acronym WASP refers to those who are white anglo-saxon and protestant traditional considered a conservative group and thus the adoption of the name for a rock band is ironic.
